Pet Vaccinations for Cats, Rabbits, and Dogs in Glen Waverley

At Glenvale Veterinary Clinic in Glen Waverley, we offer a wide range of vaccinations for pets. Prevention is always the best strategy when it comes to caring for your precious animal. Some diseases that can infect our pets are sufficiently serious and widespread that protection by vaccination is recommended. These are mainly viral diseases where currently no suitable antiviral medicines are available.

Dogs, cats and rabbits have vaccines available to protect them against harmful diseases.

A series of vaccines are given to puppies and kittens starting at 6-8 weeks of age and rabbits have a single start vaccination at 10 weeks.

Dog Vaccinations

6-8 weeks             Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus (C3)
12 weeks              Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Bordetella
and Parainfluenza (C5)
16 weeks              C5
15 months C5

Distemper, Hepatitis and Parvovirus are then given every 3 years or earlier if an epidemic should occur. Bordetella and Parainfluenza are given yearly.

Cat Vaccinations

6-8 weeks             Enteritis, Rhinotracheitis (herpes), Calicivirus (F3)
12 weeks              F3
16 weeks              F3

The F3 vaccine is then given yearly. If your cat is spending time outside then Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (cat aids) vaccine is also recommended.

Feline Leukaemia and chlamydia vaccines may be useful in some cat breeding establishments.

Rabbit Vaccinations

10 weeks Calicivirus

This is given annually.

Myxomatosis vaccine is not available currently in Australia. It is spread by mosquitoes and fleas and the best protection comes from fly wire screens around hutches and being kept indoors.

Vaccinations given to your pet may have some side effects which are similar to those experienced by humans when we are vaccinated. Drowsiness and some soreness at the site of the injection are the most common and last only a few hours. More serious side effects are rare (collapse, severe pain, vomiting) and should be treated immediately.
